Sustainability

Sustainability is the cornerstone of our renewable energy solutions

We empower local communities with renewable energy generation, and we implement sustainability initiatives throughout every stage of our projects, driving us toward a clean energy future for everyone.

We are committed to a circular economy

By focusing on reducing waste, repurposing materials, and extending the lifecycle of our resources, we ensure that our renewable energy projects have a minimal environmental footprint. This approach not only aligns with our mission to drive the energy transition, but it also sets a new standard for responsible stewardship in the energy sector.

The recyclability of renewable energy project components

Recyclability of renewable energy project components, including wind turbines, storage systems, and solar panels, is crucial for minimizing environmental impact and ensuring sustainability.

Wind turbines

The techniques that are commercially available include mechanical grinding, chemical separation, thermal processing, and more.

Solar panels

The process involves disassembling frames and junction boxes, separating glass from silicon wafers, and shredding the panels to separate different components.

Energy storage

The process involves disassembling batteries and separating materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel for reuse in batteries or other valuable products and components.
Close the Loop Program

Spearheading infinitely sustainable energy

EDPR NA launched the Close the Loop program, an industry-leading initiative based on circular economy principles to minimize waste and maximize resource recovery and reuse. This program is integral to our goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, and it's the largest recycling partnership program in the industry, with more than 20 partners.

Environmental stewardship
Renewable energy development works hand-in-hand with environmental regulations.

Our EDPR NA Environmental, Sustainability, and Development teams collaborate closely to ensure our projects meet all regulatory requirements while driving a sustainable energy future. From key regulatory drivers that shape projects to being environmental stewards in the communities where we reside, we are building a better tomorrow for all.
Our role as an industry leader in sustainability

At EDPR NA, we are striving to create a sustainable future for all, we seek innovative solutions beyond our renewable energy development to reduce our collective environmental impact, uphold a culture of ethics and responsibility, and champion forward-thinking ESG practices that contribute to building a better tomorrow.

We uphold this by being proud members of the Renewable Energy Wildlife Institute and Renewable Energy Wildlife Research Fund, as well as being signatories and certified for the following:

I am driven every day by my passion to contribute to a sustainable future. My work as an environmental professional at EDPR NA allows me to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our projects are developed and operated following EDPR NA’s high sustainability and environmental standards."
