New 800kV test transformer at HV Lab

The Test and Trials Area – Electrical Tests of EDP LABELEC carried out in June the commissioning of a new 800kV test transformer for the high voltage laboratory (LAB-AT).
This new 800kV transformer replaced the previous one (which had been in service since the beginning of the laboratory, in 1984), strengthening EDP LABELEC's capacity to perform industrial frequency tests (50Hz) and between 100 and 175Hz, meeting the latest regulatory requirements in high voltage equipment testing.
With this transformer, EDP LABELEC enhances its capacity to test equipment at all voltage levels of the Portuguese transmission and distribution network (up to 400kV), remaining a reference in this area in Portugal.
We highlight the work, preparation and dedication of the entire Electrical Tests team involved in this commissioning, allowing the service entry to proceed without any constraints.
