V2G vehicle to grid

Wednesday 6, November 2019

Have you ever seen an Electric Vehicle uncharging while standing still?

EDP is testing a new Electric Vehicle charger with a V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) feature.

These chargers offer bidirectional power flow, which means that in addition to normal vehicle charging, they also discharge the energy stored in the battery, adding value to the vehicle while it is parked.

Vehicle owners will thus have an asset which, due to its storage capacity, can be used in several situations, such as supporting building grids at peak hours or even stabilizing national electrical system parameters.

It may also be associated with distributed generation systems to promote the integration of renewable energy in the grid.
