Our specialized team operates in the area of equipment testing related to smart grids, compliance of metering equipment, and protection and automation systems equipment.
The SMARTLAB is a smartgrid integration facility that serves as a test center for technology demonstration and validation. This infrastructure is at the forefront of new technologies for the energy systems of the future. It consists of four different areas: Digital Grids, Energy Metering, Substation Automation Systems, and Storage & Mobility.
Main activities:
Equipment Qualification: Laboratory compliance tests to verify customer specification compliance. Having an infrastructure that serves as a test laboratory equipped with high technology that emulates a real electrical grid, with up to 4 low voltage grids, with 400 smart metering devices, a unique environment where real equipment can be tested in terms of functionality, performance, and interoperability among them, promoting the implementation of smart grid equipment, all within a scenario that closely mirrors real-life conditions, such as noise analysis on the voltage wave and communication signal attenuation.
Interoperability Tests: Laboratory tests to verify the interoperability and integration of various systems and digital platforms, such as smart metering equipment, protection and automation systems in substations, data concentrators, head-end systems, electric vehicle charging stations, electrical energy storage systems, and photovoltaic production.
Metrological Tests: Accredited tests to verify the metrological compliance of measuring equipment. In this context, we have been recognized since 2013 by the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ) as a metrological verification body (OVM) for carrying out the operations of First Verification and Periodic Verification of Electric Energy Meters.
Calibration of low voltage equipment: We are accredited to perform calibrations in power, energy, voltage, current, frequency, phase angle, and power factor.
Real-time simulations: The SmartLab is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that allows real-time simulation with Hardware-in-the-loop technology of events related to electrical energy networks and equipment.
