Changemakers' Lab - Girl Move
EDP is one of the partners of the NGO Girl Move Academy's Changemakers' Lab program, which brings together young Mozambican women to find solutions to address the economic and social challenges of rural communities (grassroots) in Nampula, Mozambique.
Through an iterative process of testing and prototyping new ideas and solutions in a real context, Girl Movers assess the sustainability of the solutions found by proposing new business models.
This is a program with a high social impact for both Girl Movers and local communities, as it responds to economic and social challenges of these communities and, at the same time, activates the entrepreneurial talent of young Mozambican women. By developing a business model, involving the local community and key partners, Girl Movers develop a set of personal and professional skills relevant to their future, breaking down barriers that still exist regarding gender equality.
Smart Mobility Challenge
During a three-month journey, Girl MOVERS led the implementation of nine projects, designing, testing and evaluating their potential for growth and replication in other contexts - if it works in Nampula, Mozambique, it can work in any other community.
In this journey of social innovation, solutions were created with partners, such as EDP, who were fundamental at the structural level, activating their teams to think, design and strengthen the pilot projects.
In the 2022 and 2023 editions, EDP supported the Smart Mobility challenge, in which Girl Movers developed a business model for a greener mobility solution, converting conventional motorcycles into electric ones, promoting new business opportunities for motorcycle taxi drivers in the local community;
Through this partnership, EDP reinforces its ambition to promote the sustainable development of communities based on a just energy transition that leaves no one behind.
Girl Movers are thus agents of change, aiming to change the world, starting with their country, by transforming the lives of hundreds of Mozambican families and communities.
