Improving energy efficiency for vulnerable families in Portugal, Spain, Poland, Romania and Brazil

Improving energy efficiency for vulnerable families in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Poland and Romania, specially families living in the surrounding premises of EDP Renewables’ wind parks, in the different countries it operates in. This initiative reflects the importance that the company gives to promoting social wellness and also the priority given to supporting local communities.

In Portugal
In this project, EDP offers efficiency and energy saving solutions to low-income families across the country. Partnerships are established with Social Institutions that are close to this target audience to act as intermediaries. In order to implement the planned solutions, energy diagnosis is conducted in each house which allow for the identification of the solutions that are most suitable for each situation. Social institutions acquire and contract the products and services corresponding to the identified solutions and EDP finances this investment. In parallel, we have also targeted interventions near wind parks of EDP Renewables, such as Aldeia Velha, in order to rehabilitate the houses of low income families living nearby.

In Spain
Since 2015, the EDP Foundation has promoted projects related to improving energy efficiency in the homes of vulnerable families and in the premises of NGOs, in the areas where it has traditionally been carrying out its activity, namely Asturias and the Basque Country. To this end, it has been managing various alliances with entities such as Cáritas and the Red Cross, as those in charge of selecting the recipients of the corresponding actions. In parallel, there were also renovation of houses near wind parks of EDP Renewables in Muxía, Galiza.

In Brazil
Instituto EDP supports this project in partnership with the Moradigna organization that aims to rehabilitate homes in socially vulnerable communities, reinforcing the focus on electrical installation, in alignment with EDP's strategy of access and security with the network electrical. In parallel, there were also renovations in a small community in Brazil, located at 4km from Babilônia’s Wind Complex and at 34km from the nearest town, in a village where only 22 families live.

Other locations
Next to Tomaszów wind park, in Poland and also in Vucatai, Constanza and Cernavoda in Romania, there were families that were unable to keep a heated home during the winter. We have rebuilt walls, replaced the roofs, built a chimney and installed gas, electricity and sewage systems. The doors and windows were also replaced to ensure a better isolation for the cold winter months.
