The Sea Brigade is a Portuguese Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGDO) that, since 2008, has been carrying out coastal decontamination and biodiversity protection actions. It also develops recycling initiatives and awareness campaigns to alert society in general to the scourge of marine litter, encouraging citizens to join the Brigade.
Its four main areas of action are:
1. Coastal decontamination
Regular and structured beach cleaning, with teams of volunteers, companies, and schools.
2. Environmental education (OCEANIZE)
- Raising awareness among students and teachers about ocean protection through beach cleaning actions, lectures, and workshops;
- Encouraging the creation of school groups dedicated to analyzing and intervening in good practices that raise awareness for consumption, recycling, and environmental intervention.
- Developing collaborative international projects in various areas of action focused on capacity building for human and sustainable development.
3. Eco team buildings (CORPOR-ACT)
- Involvement of companies and institutions in the mission of the Sea Brigade.
- Recruiting new agents of change through actions with a significant individual and collective impact.
4. Cooperation for development
Creating a network for the transmission of knowledge and best practices with various actors in sustainability and the blue economy fields. The goal is to share and acquire information among associations, companies, institutions, and universities to test and apply the best solutions for the benefit of the oceans.
