Science Based Targets Initiative
Climate change is one of humanity's greatest natural challenges, requiring societies and companies to rapidly transform towards a more sustainable world. EDP's strategy is based on strong investment in renewable capacity, as well as on a growing offer of new energy services. Our goal is to decarbonise through energy efficiency and electrification, decisive in achieving the ambitious targets set in the Paris Agreement.
With this agreement, 197 countries committed to working to avoid a 2ºC increase in the planet's average temperature, compared to pre-industrial times, doing their utmost to limit this increase to 1.5ºC. At the same time, the private sector has a recognised role to play in this journey, and companies around the world respond to a call for greater proactivity and commitment.
A SBTi constitui o standard de referência para validação da ambição das empresas na sua trajetória de descarbonização tendente para emissões líquidas zero (Net-Zero).

Our history
In 2019, our ambition was considered in line with a well-below 2ºC trajectory, assuming a 90% reduction in GHG emissions compared to 2015 (absolute and specific). In 2021, this target was revised, and EDP rose its ambition to a 98% reduction in specific scope 1 and 2 emissions by in 2030 compared to 2015, in line with the 1.5ºC decarbonisation journey.

Net-Zero standard - the future
*The scope of the targets includes emissions linked to land use and the removal of bioenergy raw materials.
